COUNT HEARTS
Inactivity is at an all-time high (58.6%) and this has major consequences for individuals, businesses and society. We MUST do something about it.
We used to count steps. Today, we know that the heart rate needs to go up too. WHO recommends 150 minutes of moderate heart rate per week. Then we live longer and better. That’s why we created Count Hearts™ to easily turn your employees’ activity into hearts and motivate them to reach the WHO’s goal on the importance of activity.
Count Hearts provides a healthy economy and community in your company and contributes to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 3 on Health and Well-being.
Lars Peter Busch
CEO
We have already got the pulse up in several companies. Together with Google, we have been selected as a partner to the world’s largest organization for heart associations: the World Heart Federation. We are very proud of this.
COUNT HEARTS is a healthy investment
Count Hearts is not only an investment from the heart, but also a wise investment when you look at the bottom line. Because in addition to increased customer satisfaction, numerous studies show that active employees pay off:
Up to
less sick leave
Up to
less stress
Up to
higher productivity
Count Hearts – perhaps your wisest investment ever
What, How & Why
What is Count Hearts
Count Hearts isn’t just for the 12-15% of your employees who always participate in exercise programs. Count Hearts is an inclusive concept that motivates everyone – both inactive and active – to be more active. Everyone can join in and every activity counts. Whether you’re cycling, vacuuming, lifting weights, kissing your sweetheart, or gardening, as long as you get your heart rate up, it counts. Our results show that over 50% of company employees participate and 80% reach the WHO recommendations for physical activity week after week. That’s something we’re proud of.
How Count Hearts works
Count Hearts is based on your heart rate, which we convert into “hearts.” For every minute of moderate intensity activity, you earn one heart. The goal is to reach 150 hearts per week. Employees are divided into teams that compete to ensure all team members reach 150 hearts each week. Progress and achievements can be tracked continuously on a dashboard and in the app.
Count Hearts uses healthy gamification to motivate employees to increase their heart rate. By combining health data with gamification, Count Hearts creates fun and measurable health challenges that engage employees in a whole new way. Instead of counting steps, heart rate measurement gives a more accurate picture of real activity and its impact on health. And since everyone has a pulse and can raise it regardless of activity, everyone can participate (not just those in lycra).
Why Count Hearts
Because the WHO, World Heart Federation and the Danish Health Authority recommend that we should get our heart rate up for at least 150 minutes a week to reduce the risk of a wide range of diseases and increase the chance of living longer and better. And because Count Hearts is good business for your company and makes it compliant with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 3 on Health and Well-being.
COUNT HEARTS translates your heart rate into hearts
The WHO recommendation is the foundation of Count Hearts. Simply put, for every minute you are active at a moderate heart rate, you get one heart. It’s easy to understand and communicate. Since heart rate is relative, everyone can participate regardless of individual level. Every activity counts.

Motivating competition that boosts team spirit
Count Hearts team competitions create well-being and motivate your employees to get moving. It’s not about the individual reaching the most hearts, but about everyone on the team reaching above the WHO recommendation. Teams can be made across departments or be departments against each other. We recommend running the competition over four weeks and repeating it four times a year.
In addition, Count Hearts can be used to create fundraisers for charity. Since Count Hearts is based on heart rate, anyone can participate in collecting hearts, which are then converted into a donation.
What companies say about COUNT HEARTS
“This has been a fantastic five-week program where we have gathered and motivated the employees to be active. It has created a sense of unity across all departments. The teams were mixed from all our departments and it has brought us even closer to each other on a different level in terms of community and unity. It has brought a bigger smile and the management has already announced the next competition.”
Tomas H. Lundgaard
Key Account Manager, Garmin
“It just works and I get nothing but positive feedback about a good, fun and versatile program at the group training sessions. I also hear that one employee has lost over 10 kg and another just feels much better in his body and has more energy.”
Birgitte Lund
HR Manager, Wärtsilä Lyngsø Marine
“When it comes to the physical, we have tried many different things, from “we cycle to work” to group yoga. It has always been a challenge to find a health initiative that includes everyone. That’s why we decided to go into Count Hearts, where everyone can participate, as the physical activities can be anything from strength training in the center to vacuuming at home. The fact that everyone can participate on an equal level was one of the main reasons why we chose to work with IQNITER.”

HR Manager, BKI FOODS
Physical activity makes a difference in life
We used to count steps. Today we know that we need to get our heart rate up too. WHO recommends 150 minutes of activity at moderate intensity per week. Then we live longer and better as the risk of 32 different diseases, including cancer, diabetes 2 and depression, decreases.
With the COUNT HEARTS concept, around 80% of participants reach their goal week after week!

What employees say about COUNT HEARTS
“It’s super cool that IQNITER can now connect to my Garmin watch? I can easily count hearts on my runs too.“
Thomas
“Getting enough hearts – and preferably more! It’s really, really fun and great success for a “non-sports nerd” like me who just wants to be healthy.“
Kristiane
“I use Count Hearts to exercise with my family. Despite the great physical distance, we can still help each other get into our training clothes and motivate each other.“
Pernille
“My active boys have some inactive parents:-) I’ve just been thinking about what I could start that we can be together/shared. Count Hearts fell right into the turban.“
Anne
“It’s great because you can battle from a distance – and it’s comparable whether you’re cycling, walking, running or strength training, which means that everyone can participate.”
Ida
“It’s fun to compete for heart rate because it’s fair that the one who does the most wins.”
Pernille L
“Count Hearts has made me walk more often, with more intensity and for longer. I have started running after not running for 20 years. My focus has changed effortlessly, the change hasn’t required anything extra or special from me, which such a habit change usually does. It’s easy to constantly increase your efforts and create a better result – it gives you a sense of self-satisfaction. It’s been a natural and fun habit change.”
Peter
“It created good dialog between colleagues!”
Britt
“It has been a good concept. You become more aware of whether you should take the stairs instead of the elevator, for example, even if you don’t track. You become aware that it’s relatively “small” things you can do and that you do anyway in your everyday life that can make a difference – or relatively “small” changes you can make, such as taking the dog for a walk at a brisk pace instead of a stroll.”
Niels
Everyone can join in. And all activities count as hearts in the app – whether you’re cycling to work, running in the woods, lifting weights, vacuuming, weeding the garden or kissing your sweetheart.
